Blended Learning event series
With schools now adapting to their students’ return to the classroom, how can they ensure learning has not been lost and adapt to this new style of learning? A blended approach will enable schools to have the best of both worlds, online and in-class teaching and learning.
In this new three-part series, we will look at how schools can evaluate and plan their new strategy based on the Education Endowment Foundation’s (EEF) guidance Putting evidence to work: A School’s Guide to Implementation.
Session 1 – Planning for the “new normal”
Overview
In part 1, participants will investigate how schools are addressing the transition to a blended approach to learning, the questions which need to be asked along with the pitfalls they might encounter. This blended approach impacts on many aspects of school life, such as the increased demand on the school’s environment and infrastructure. How can schools plan and implement the needs of this new style of learning?
A digital approach to learning places many demands on a school, however, planning is essential if implementation is to be a success. Examples will show how this can be managed for the school whilst aligning this with the EEF guidance document.

Session 2 – A change to workflow and workload?
Overview
Part 2 will look at how schools can plan and manage the implementation of a blended learning strategy from the aspects of teacher workload and workflow within a classroom. Discussions with teachers and leaders will evaluate the effect their strategy has had on their organisation and students’ learning and wellbeing.
This digital strategy affects many aspects of school operations, from communication to collaboration and impact on work by reducing the time needed for the administrative burden along with the financial and environmental savings. We will discuss issues evidenced by the EEF guidance Using Digital Technology to Improve Learning and how this has been achieved through case studies.

Session 3 – Addressing Children’s Needs
Overview
The recent lockdown and immediate implementation of online learning has had a marked impact on the needs of children and highlighted both challenges and opportunities for schools. Technology has enabled learning to be delivered in different styles to ensure all students have equitable levels of learning.
In this session, participants will investigate how some schools have amended their planning and teaching strategies to enable students to have a more enriched and accessible learning experience.
Based on the guidance from EEF, Using Digital Technology to Improve Learning, leaders will evaluate how they and their staff have adapted their delivery through lockdown and the impact that this has had on their students.
